So, whats going on?
Posted on October 2nd, 2008 in Flockey News | 2 Comments »

So it’s been more than two weeks since the beginning of the contest and it’s been great to host. But during that time, a lot of stuff has been happening both away and at my computer. Firstly, the biggest thing i’d like to mention is that I now have a job freelancing for Nation1, a company I went for an interview for on the 18th. The manager Andrew introduced me around the company meeting some various workers. We spoke about how I would effect the company and how I would be taking on the design sides of things from now on.

It was only before I went to Kent that I got my first brief through to work on, so I should have more on that very soon!

Away from the computer. Were will I start? I’ve been doing so many things lately. Over the September weekend, I took a trip down to Kent to meet some girls I met on holiday this year. We went down with her cousin Ian who is one of my good mates. It was amazing! We went into Maidstone for a night out in the town which was okay, nothing like Glasgow! But overall it was a great laugh and great to see the girls again. I have also started back university, which is really exciting for me because this year I can choose to stay on for a third year and do Applied Graphics, which I am hoping to pursue a career in at the end of it.

Anyways, that’s about it. Remember to subscribe to the RSS feed :)

James

Contest is almost here and new project!
Posted on September 11th, 2008 in Articles, Contests, Flockey News, New Projects, Random | No Comments »

Hello everyone, yes it’s true the contest is almost here. I have been talking on Twitter about it for a couple of days now and we are almost all set to go. I just want to apologize for the lack of posts recently, just had a lot of client work and trying to get the contest all set. I can say we have some nice prize giveaways, so look forward to it.

I think just now I will give you a break down of how it’s going to work.

Okay, so basically to enter the contest you will have to blog or write about the contest and link to the contest on your post. Then (read this part - very important!) you will have to subscribe to the RSS feed by email, so it is much easier for us to select all the emails and then randomly select the winners using this nifty little tool (thanks Gareth)!

I won’t say no more. Look forward to it tomorrow!

Anyways, moving on shall we? It’s true. I have a new little project in the works. I have eventually gotten around to designing business cards and going to be locally distributing them around the city of Glasgow. If you want to check out the new website here it is.

That’s all for now folks, sorry I have rushed this a little bit. No worries though, contest tomorrow. Look forward to it :) Be sure to follow me on Twitter for all the details :)

James

The Client Help Sheet
Posted on September 3rd, 2008 in Flockey News | No Comments »

fcs

Hello everyone, this post will be kept brief just to inform you that I have just written up a client help sheet. Basically what this is, is a sheet that I will get my future clients to download and they then fill it in. It gives me feedback and of course makes it easier to get to know what type of style of design the client is looking for.

I will also be writing up a client feedback document as well very soon, so I can keep track of how clients are enjoying/not enjoying the service at Flockey and hopefully we can work on any problems and make Flockey a better place.

So I guess thats all I have for now. If you want to leave any comments, by all means do so.

Passed My Practical Theory Test
Posted on September 3rd, 2008 in Flockey News | 2 Comments »

Woohoo! That’s all I can say at the moment. Been studying for a few weeks now and i’ve passed my theory test first time this morning. It’s always one of those nerve racking places to go to. Get your own wee booth and computer. The staff were very calm and very serious looking (I think thats just how us scottish look first thing in the morning though?). Anyways, I strolled through it, all the questions that came up were related in someway to what I was studying at home. So I am pretty chuffed to be honest.

So… bring on the practical driving test!

On another note, if you could subscribe to my rss feed that’d be great. I’m trying to get as much readers as possible! So go on subscribe!

Tutorial Writers & New Additions To Portfolio
Posted on August 26th, 2008 in Flockey News | 8 Comments »

Hello everyone, Flockey is now looking for some tutorial writers, that are capable of writing quality tutorials. I am looking for writers who have experience in doing this and can show me examples. I am looking for tutorials to be written for design, i.e - Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator related.

I am looking for people to write up at least 500+ words for $20.00. If you exceed the 500 words that would be absolutely fantastic! I am also looking for people who are passionate about design and are willing to write in detail. If you have never written a tutorial before and want to give it a try then by all means contact me, I’ll be more than willing to give it a read and see if it is worthy of going on the blog. If you’ve not noticed yet I have listed this vacancy on the about page and you can apply for it there also using the little contact form. I am really looking forward to hopefully getting some really nice tutorials written by people who have the time and patience. I will try my hardest to get some written by myself, although I cannot promise anything due to the high demand in client work recently, although I will try!

On another note there have been new additions to the portfolio and hopefully some more very soon. The new designs that have been added are DigitalRacing & HolidayForums. Digital Racing is yet another website by a previous client of mine called Ryan Gilmore, the owner of Myp90x which I designed not long ago. Ryan was nice enough to come back to me for more work and I have turned this design around in under 24 hours. I will have another post in the future when this website goes live. As for HolidayForums this was a collaboration by myself & Adam Hall. I was given the project to do by a client who was working with both myself and Adam at the time. This was originally for a website called FreelanceForum although we drastically changed it and i’m extremely happy with the outcome. This has now been sold on.

That’s all for now folks. If you’d be nice enough to subscribe to the new RSS feed, that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
